According to the study, Slovenia is given 60 points from Transparency International. This country more than once was involved in huge corruption scandals.

9. Spain

Spain's corruption index showed 58 points. Scandals related to bribery of officials occur in the country on an incredibly regular basis. For example, once even the country's Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy has been accused of corruption. And recently, 24 of the Spanish politicians from the People's Party have been caught in a bribery scandal and taken into custody.

8. The Czech Republic

Czech corruption index edged down to 56 points (a year earlier the situation in the country was even worse – 51 points). This progress in fight against corruption is associated with the solution of the scandal, started in 2013. Then, due to corruption charges, the Czech Prime Minister Petr Nekas left his office.

7. South Korea

This year South Korea's corruption index is 56 points. Not only the republic faces dark times (mass protests against the President Park Geun-hye), but also corruption is one of the most pressing issues. A year ago, the country's Prime Minister has been accused of corruption and had to leave his office.

6. Hungary

Hungary worsened its performance in 2016. The corresponding index dropped to 51 points from 54 points in 2015. In Hungary people are used to giving and receiving large bribes. Interestingly, over 90% of the population believe that it is appropriate to encourage one another in such a way.

5. Slovakia

Slovakia scored 51 points on the 2016 Corruption Perceptions Index. Not so long ago, there was a huge bribery investigation in political circles.

4. Greece

Greece is given 46 points from Transparency International. Since 2015, corruption situation in the country slightly improved (43 points a year earlier). The Greeks, as well as the Hungarians, are used to give bribes in order to improve the quality of services they need.

3. Italy

This year Italy's corruption index showed 44 points. Many people associate bribery in Italy with a former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.

2. Turkey

Turkey gained 42 points from Transparency International. Turkey is considered to be the most corrupt country in Europe. The last time, when the country was involved in a huge corruption scandal, was in 2013.

1. Mexico

Mexico is the most corrupt country in the world. This state scored only 35 points. Mexico also known as the main center of drug trade in the world, so it is not a surprise to see Mexico number one among the most corrupt countries in the world.
