USD used as economic time bomb
When the US dollar turns into a weapon, the fallout can be just as devastating as bombs on a battlefield. At least, that is the view of Kim Schmitz, better known as Dotcom, the founder of the file-sharing sites Megaupload and Mega. In an interview with RIA Novosti, he said that turning the US dollar into a tool for geopolitical pressure was the biggest mistake the American government could have made.
Schmitz warns that global de-dollarization could have the same effect on the US as a bomb attack. He even threw in some free advice for the US government to sell dollar assets and switch to gold and cryptocurrencies. It seems like he is betting on a future where Bitcoin and gold bars reign supreme.
"The weaponization of the US dollar will be remembered as the biggest mistake the US government has ever made," Dotcom predicts. Judging by his words, the consequences of this decision may be even bigger than they seem at first glance.
Curiously, Schmitz is not the only one thinking this way. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has already said that many countries, realizing how unreliable Western policies are, are quickly selling off the dollar, thus cutting their dependence on it. The real question now is which strategy will prove more effective: de-dollarization or the "weaponization" of the greenback? Time will tell, but one thing is clear—this economic game has higher stakes than ever.
